The Wound Healing Institute of Denver

Our nationally recognized Wound Care Program is led by Dr. Pradeep Rai – a General Surgeon with 20 years of diverse experience in wound and burn care – and Dr. Craig Reynolds – a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon with 43 years of experience.  Our program is unique in the curative approach taken to wound healing, rather than conventional wound management.  Our nationally recognized Wound Care Program has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease Specific Wound Care Certification.  The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

The hallmark of our Wound Care Program is the Bedside Wound Closure (BWC).  It is an innovative surgical approach designed to address difficult, non-healing wounds that are refractory to traditional wound therapies.  The surgeon performs a direct closure of the wound at the bedside followed by a progressive aftercare program of rest, stretching and sitting.  The advantages of the Bedside Wound Closure are:

  • The Bedside Wound Closure (BWC) is performed at the patient’s bedside under local anesthesia
  • Less metabolic demand on the patient than traditional FLAP surgery
  • Less stress on the patient due to the avoidance of general anesthesia and transport to an acute care hospital

Healing is achieved with a protocol-driven 8-week program.

Our Admissions Process

Like many long-term acute care hospitals, we admit patients with a wide range of conditions, including patients with multiple diagnoses. Patients are often referred to us by their acute care physicians or other healthcare providers. However, we also work with patients and their family members who discover us independently.

Whether you are being referred by your doctor or searching for long-term acute care in Denver, CO, on your own, we work to make admissions as simple as possible. At the beginning of the process, we will send a friendly patient coordinator to meet with you and evaluate your needs. If it looks like you might be a good fit for our inpatient program, your patient coordinator will work closely with you, your family, your primary care physician and your insurance provider. This assistance helps ensure the transition to post-acute care goes smoothly.
