At Post Acute Medical, the goal of our Lymphedema Management Program is to improve the overall quality of life for a patient suffering with a swollen extremity. Caused by a build up of high protein fluid just beneath the skin, lymphedema can occur in the arms and legs, as well as other parts of the body.
Lymphedema can be either primary or secondary: primary, meaning it occured on its own, and secondary, meaning it was caused by a disease or condition. In either case, our clinicians are trained to help ease the symptoms and improve a patient’s quality of life.
Your treatment may include:
Manual lymphatic drainage
Reduction in volume in the edema
Restoration of range of motion
Assistance with the restoring of normal external appearance
Reduce pain and increase coping skills
Improve quality of life
Provide support and sensitivity for the psychological impact of disease
